Oakley E. Snyder, 75, fisherman, gardener
Oakley Earl Snyder, 76, who had lived in the Buttermilk Hill area all his life, (Franklin RD 3), died in the Franklin Hospital at 7:35 a.m. today.
He was born at Galloway on Nov. 27, 1900, a son of Sadie Snyder. His step-father was William Baker.
On June 26, 1920, he and the former Clara Alma Russell, of Rockland, were married and she survives.
Mr. Snyder worked for Penn-DOT for nine years, at the Wolf's Head Refinery in Reno for nine years and at the Joy Manufacturing Co. for 15 years, retiring from there in 1965.
He was a charter member of the Sugarcreek Civic Club and had been active in that organization. He was an ardent fisherman and sportsman and always took particular pride in his garden. He attended the Sugarcreek Grace United Methodist Church.
Surviving In addition to his wife are three sons, John, of Franklin; James, Franklin RD 3; CWO 4 Kenneth Snyder, with the Army in Germany; three daughters, Mrs. Ted (Alma) Long, Franklin RD 3; Mrs. Audine Wilt and Mrs. Bob (Donna) Bell, of Franklin; a sister, Mrs. Hattie Calvent, of Tampa, Fla., and a foster-sister, Mrs. Ada Haney, of Franklin; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Ida Marie Snyder, is deceased.
The body is at the Burger-Gardinier Funeral Home where friends may call any time after 7 p.m. Wednesday. Time for the funeral service will be announced later, and the Rev. Walter Smith, of Sugarcreek, will officiate.

Funeral services for Oakley E. Snyder, 75, lifelong resident of Buttermilk Hill, who died Tuesday, were held at 11 a.m. today at the Burger-Gardinier Funeral Home.
The Rev. John Hollingsworth, of Skokie, Ill., officiated, reading Psalms 23 and he was assisted by the Rev. Glenn F. Clulow, of Pasadena, Md.
At the close of the service was the reading of a prayer which had been composed by Donna Bell in behalf of the Snyder family.
Interment was in Franklin Cemetery and the pallbearers were Ralph Riddle, Bob McMurdy, Herb Schwigler, Jack White, Don Hefferman and Cloyd Hollen.
Attending the services from a distance were the Rev. and Mrs. Glenn M. Clulow, Pasadena, Md.; the Rev. John Hollingsworth, Skokie, Ill.; Kenneth Snyder, Germany, and friends and relatives from Greenville, Parker, Lisbon, Pleasantville, Emlenton and Punxsutawney.
