General Notes: Husband - Col. William Rutherford

He received a fair education, and was brought up as a farmer. Born amid the thunders of the Revolution, he inherited the military spirit of his father, and became quite prominent as an officer, serving in all the grades from a lieutenant up to that of a commission of colonel, which office he declined. In 1816 he was elected a director of the poor, and served as a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1819 to 1821, and again from 1829 to 1831. Politically, he was a Whig. He and his wife were members of the Paxtang Presbyterian church. He died on the farm on which he was born and spent his life.
