General Notes: Husband - James Sample

---

He emigrated from the North of Ireland, when yet a young man, and after reaching America settled in Pennsylvania. Immediately after marriage he and his wife moved to Pittsburgh, then called "the backwoods" by people in Cumberland County. He had money, and located on Coal hill (later Mt. Washington), where he engaged in farming. At a later date he came to Washington County, and lived a few years in Washington, then moved to Allegheny County, and rented a farm where Wilkinsburg later stood. He died on a farm in Versailles township, near Turtle Creek.
