General Notes: Husband - John Stratford Damer Sandys

He was the son of Thomas Stratford and Jane Weichsel Damer Sandys. Thomas Stratford Sandys was the son of Abraham and Maria Johnson Eyre Sandys, of Dublin, Ireland. Abraham Sandys (1754-1832) was a graduate of Trinity College, Dublin, and was the son of Rev. Abraham Sandys (1723-1771), minor canon of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, who married Hester Cocking. The Irish branch of Sandys is allied with the English, of whom Archbishop Sandys (1518-1588) and his son Sir Edwin Sandys (1561-1629) are distinguished members.

Upon taking up residence in America, first at Petersburg, Virginia, about 1838, and later at Baltimore, Maryland, he adopted the surname Damer, although the Sandys relationship was never disputed nor the line of descent questioned. The use of the surname Sandys was later revived by his family.
