General Notes: Husband - James Tannehill Sargent


He learned the trade of printer in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and in later years owned and edited a paper in Iowa, and still later one in South Dakota. He was instrumental in raising a company in Iowa for service in the Civil war, and was elected its first lieutenant. He served his time and returned home without any serious injury, having participated in Grant's campaign around Vicksburg.
