He received his education in the public schools of Jeannette, Pennsylvania; was employed by the McKee Glass Company for ten years, and then became connected with the Cambridge Glass Company of Cambridge, Ohio, where he held the post of pay-master, and was later in the medical department at Fort Myer, Virginia, in the United States army service. He was a member of Philanthropy Lodge, No. 225, Free and Accepted Masons, and of Jeannette Lodge, No. 486, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
