He was educated in the public schools and the Chambersburg Academy. He was graduated at Lafayette College, Easton, Pennsylvania, in 1888. He studied law with William T. Omwake, Esq., Waynesboro, and the Hon. W. Rush Gillan, Chambersburg, and was admitted to the Franklin County Bar, April 28, 1890. He began the practice of his profession at Waynesboro, but moved to Chambersburg in 1895. He was District Attorney of Franklin county, 1893-96, being elected as a Republican. Fraternally he was a charter member of Chambersburg Lodge of Elks.
