After the death of their father, he and his siblings emigrated to America, first locating in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, some of them afterward moving to Washington (now Allegheny) County, same state.

He settled with his brother James, on a farm in Elizabeth township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
