General Notes: Husband - C. Fred Shaffer


He spent his boyhood at Zelienople and Harmony, Pennsylvania, and attended the public schools. At a very early age he learned the printer's trade with Col. Samuel Young, prominent newspaper publisher of Zelienople. Later, he went to Evans City and was employed by J. R. Young, son of Samuel Young, newspaper owner. He was connected with the Rochester Commoner for a short time and in 1902 opened a printing shop at Evans City, which he then devoted his entire time to. He specialized in commercial printing.
He was a Democrat and served at least three consecutive terms as mayor of Evans City.
