General Notes: Husband - Charles P. Shaffer

Year of birth 1803. [HVC 1879, 489]
The Shaffers are an old family in Pennsylvania, but beyond the fact that they are of Holland origin and were established in Lancaster County long ago nothing is known of the early history. Charles P. Shaffer was the first of this line to settle in Venango County. Born in Lancaster County, he remained in eastern Pennsylvania until about 1830, variously engaged as owner of a general store, dealer in live stock and successful veterinary surgeon. About 1830 he became a resident of Foxburg, Clarion County, and several years later settled in Venango County, purchasing land in Richland Township, where he was a prosperous farmer for the rest of his active life. He was a prominent member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, in which he held the office of elder a number of years. [CAB, 811]
