General Notes: Husband - John Yearick, Jr.

Nittany Valley, Clinton Co, PA - a farmer

His education was mostly acquired in the German schools, he only attending an English school for one winter. He was able to attend school for only a few months during the year, as his services were needed at home, and while his father was engaged in carpentering and building, he was employed in hauling lumber during the winter season at the expense of his education. His boyhood was passed on the home farm, and when a young man he engaged in the manufacture of harvesting cradles, at which he was several times employed in Ohio, walking from his home to Summit county, that state.
Among the several farms which his father owned was one in Porter township where our subject began his domestic life, and where he continued to reside for many years. Being a natural mechanic, in addition to his farming operations he manufactured furniture, sleds, sleighs, etc., especially for his own use, and he could make almost anything from wood that he saw. He made many improvements on his place which added to its value and attractive appearance, and he had an excellent peach orchard. Politically he was always an adherent of the Democratic party, and he has served his fellow-citizens in the capacity of supervisor and school director. Fraternally he affiliated with the Grange, and religiously he and his wife were faithful members of the Reformed Church.
