He came from Northampton County, Pennsylvania, to Westmoreland County about the time of the founding of the Zionville Settlement.

He located in the western part of the state of Pennsylvania about the latter part of the eighteenth century, having removed thither from the eastern section of the state. [HWC 1906 III, 459]
