She began her education in the public schools near her home, later graduated at the Jersey Shore Academy, and subsequently attended the Dickinson Seminary; later graduated at the Froebel Institute, of Washington, D. C. She was a lady of scholarly tastes, and for at least nine years successfully engaged in teaching.
