General Notes: Husband - John Shippen

He came to Clarion County, Pennsylvania, from Lancaster County, and built the first store in Shippenville, in 1822, near where the Union Hotel was later located. Richard Shippen, brother of John, became a partner in the store. The post-office was established in Shippenville in 1825, and John Shippen was appointed postmaster.
