General Notes: Husband - David Howard Shirey

He resided not far from the Beatty Mines in Unity township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, following farming as an occupation.

He spent his childhood in his native place. For his education he attended the local public schools, but at the age of eighteen he was placed in charge of the home farm, which he operated for his mother until the time of her death, when he himself became its owner. He did much to improve and render productive his farm, which was regarded as a model one and was situated on Lincoln Highway in Unity township, about four and a half miles northeast of Greensburg. He erected there all new buildings, including a charming country house in which he made his home. He carried on general farming and operated a dairy, with a herd of twenty-five cows, selling the milk wholesale in Pittsburgh. In later years Mr. Shirey also entered the automobile business.
