He was a tailor. He was driving to Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania, with a load of produce from his farm when he was struck and injured near Deemer's crossroads by a hit and run driver. The injuries led to his death after many months of suffering. He was confined to bed for more than a year and cared for by his sisters.
