General Notes: Husband - Samuel Alvin Smith

He was educated in the public schools, and grew to manhood in association with his father and his work. Later he became an oil well driller and a contractor. His field of operations covered Westmoreland, Armstrong and Jefferson counties in Pennsylvania and in this field he contracted and put down a great many wells, keeping from thirty to thirty-five men constantly employed. He was also an oil producer, owning, with his business partner, William Smith, several good properties. In politics he was a Republican, but was never an aspirant for public office. He was a charter member of the Monterey Lodge, Senior Order of American Mechanics, and on November 17, 1912, completed a membership in that order of twenty-five years. Both he and his wife were members of the Methodist Episcopal church.
