He was reared and educated in Tionesta, Forest County, Pennsylvania, where he learned the carpenter's trade, and after the beginning of the oil excitement followed the occupation of a driller. He was a member of the P. O. S. of A., and in politics was a Republican.

Our Oldest Native-born Citizen Passes Away.
Tionesta lost its oldest native born citizen and one of its most familiar figures when, at 10 o'clock on Sunday morning, June 10, 1917, Z. T. Shriver passed away at his home in this borough. Friday morning about 6 o'clock, his usual time for rising he sustained a paralytic stroke, affecting his vocal organs and the whole right side of his body, and although conscious of what was transpiring and what was said, he was unable to speak. At noon Saturday a change came, and he relapsed into unconsciousness, apparently falling into a deep sleep, from which he did not waken, the end coming as above stated.
Zachariah Taylor Shriver was the youngest child of Jacob and Margaret (Range) Shriver, and was born in Tionesta, April 18, 1850. With the exception of a few years spent in Chautauqua county, N. Y., his residence had been maintained here ever since his birth. As a youth he acquired the trade of his father, that of carpentering, and his well kept chest contained perhaps the finest set of tools that could be found in the country. Essentially he was an all 'round mechanic, in which line he excelled in many ways, and it was common to hear the expression when anything went wrong with one's machinery, "let Zach at it, he'll make it go." In his younger days he followed oil well drilling, in which line he was an expert, having few equals and no superiors. As a neighbor and friend he was kind, considerate and helpful; always ready and willing to lend his aid and sympathy in times of trouble and distress. He had no enemies, but did have many warm friends who will miss his familiar presence and cordial, even-tempered greeting.
November 10, 1874, Mr. Shriver was united in marriage with Miss Alice Wolcott, daughter of the late Silas J. and Martha (Teed) Wolcott, who survives. To this happy union were born five children, namely: Arthur Clyde of Oil City; Linus T. and Silas J. of Tionesta; James R. of Limestone, N. Y., and Mrs. Martha, wife of Martin T. Rodda of Erie, Pa., all of whom, with one sister, Mrs. Hattie, widow of Prof. W. G. Ladds of Franklin, and very many warm friends and sympathizing neighbors are left to mourn the passing of a kind husband, father brother and fellow citizen.
Funeral services in memory of the deceased will be held at his late home, this, Wednesday afternoon, at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. J. E. Allgood, pastor of the M. E. church, officiating. The interment will be in Mt. Collins cemetery.

A deep sense of sorrow was manifested among our people on last Friday morning when the sad news was received here of the death of Mrs. Alice J. Shriver, which occurred on Tuesday evening at 6:30 o'clock, March 11, 1926, after a brief illness, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. T. Rodda, at Midwest, Wyoming. She was a daugher of Silas and Martha (Teed) Wolcott, and was born in Tionesta, October 18, 1858. In the year 1874 she became the wife of Z. T. Shriver. His death occurred nine years ago last June and for the past three years she has made her home with her daughter in Wyoming. Throughout all of her life she was a faithful, consecrated member of the Tionesta Methodist Episcopal church, always ready and willing to give her time and talent to the services of her Lord and Master. When but a child she developed rare musical talent, and as a soloist and leader of the church choir, her sweet voice was heard with pleasure in times without number throughout her life. She was a good wife and a kind and affectionate mother, and her passing will be regretted by a large circle of relatives and a host of devoted friends. She is survived by four sons, Clyde of Clarion, L. T. of Oil City, Silas J., of Tionesta, and James of Oklahoma, and one daughter, Mrs. Rodda; also by one brother, William M. Wolcott of Erie, and one sister, Mrs. Harry L. Weston of Dayton, O., and thirteen grandchildren.
The body of Mrs. Shriver arrived in Tionesta Tuesday morning and was taken to the home of her son, S. J. Shriver, where private funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon. The service will be conducted by Rev. E. D. Hulse, pastor of the M. E. church. Interment will be made beside her husband in Mt. Collins cemetery.
