The early ancestors of the Simpson family of western Pennsylvania were members of the strictest sect of the old historic covenanters.

He migrated to America in 1775, first locating in Pennsylvania, in the "Path valley," subsequently removing to Westmoreland County, and in 1785 or '6 settling on land in Cherryhill township, Indiana County.
