He was born May 25. [HWC 1906 II, 455]

During the civil war he served in the Fifteenth Regiment, Pennsylvania Cavalry, receiving a slight wound. After the return of peace he devoted himself to agricultural pursuits and for many years was one of the leading farmers of Westmoreland County. For a number of years he was a member of the state board of agriculture. He served his township in various minor offices, among them that of school director which he held for several terms, and also that of county auditor. At the time of his death he had been for about twenty-five years justice of the peace. He was connected with the Westmoreland Agricultural Society, and belonged to Carmel Lodge, No. 542, I. O. O. F., of Delmont. He also belonged to the A. O. U. W. In politics he was an uncompromising Democrat. He was a member of Delmont Presbyterian church, and for many years a member of the session.
