General Notes: Wife - Mary Smith

The Citizen-Press, Franklin, PA
Aug 15, 1895
Mary Smith.
Mary Smith, widow of Peter Smith, was born in Center county, Pa., on March 7th, 1809, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Huldah Sloan, in Butler county, July 10th, 1895. She came with her father's family to Rockland, Venango county, when twelve years of age, where she spent the main portion of her life time.
At the age of seventeen she was converted at a camp meeting, and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, in which she lived and labored, a happy, shouting christian for almost seventy years. She was known among her friends--she had no enemies--as "Aunt Molly." Her life was remarkable for evenliness of temper, sweetness of disposition and freedom from excitement on all subjects except that of religion. She was left a widow thirty-two years ago, and has since lived a quiet peaceful life with her children. She was the mother of six children. Two sons and a daughter passed away before their mother, and three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Graham, Mrs. Elizabeth Levier, and Mrs. Huldah Sloan survive her. Her end was peace. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Rockland cemetery, to await the resurrection of the just. S.
