He attended the public schools of Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and then entered Chambersburg Academy, whence he was graduated with distinction in June, 1899. He then read medicine with his uncle, Dr. Andrew Jackson Snively, at Hanover, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the Medico-Chirurgical College of Philadelphia in 1903 with the degree of M. D. He then served as resident physician at the Samaritan Hospital, from the time he graduated until July 1, 1904, after which he located at No. 5308 Market street, Philadelphia. He began rapidly gaining a good practice.
