He was brought up on the homestead farm, which beginning in 1802 [sic, 1862?] was his own. He added to it by purchase until it consisted of about 320 acres, more or less, and he improved it by building a new house, barns, etc., until his place was one of the best in the township. He also had an interest in the estate of his uncle, Thomas Truitt, Jr.
