General Notes: Husband - James M. Sterrett

He was born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and removed to Erie with his father's family in 1807. Soon after reaching his majority he engaged in the tannery business, and in a few years succeeded in building up the largest tannery in northern Pennsylvania. Later in life he engaged extensively in the purchase and sale of real estate.
He moved his family to Erie in 1819, the mode of traveling being on horseback and the “old Penn wagon,” as there were no stage coaches at that date.
