He was reared at Adamsburg, Pennsylvania, where he attended the common, select and normal schools of that place. After working for some time in a cigar manufactory he was appointed, February 3, 1883, as deputy clerk of the courts of Westmoreland County and served in that capacity till March, 1886. He then formed a partnership with Darwin Musick and on April 1, 1886, they issued the initial number of the paper, the Greensburg Record, of which Mr. Stahl was the business manager.
He believed in the principles of Jeffersonian democracy as enunciated and practiced by Andrew Jackson and Grover Cleveland.
