General Notes: Husband - Thomas Stockdale

He was of English parentage and emigrated to America, settling in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He moved from there to Washington County late in 1799. His people were Quakers.
On the 12th of April, 1800, he purchased one hundred acres of land from Joseph Allen, a part of the tract patented by him under the name of "Allen's Delight." On the 5th of June the next year he purchased one hundred acres adjoining, and of the same tract. [HWC 1882, 645]

In the latter part of the 1700s, Thomas Stockdale, a native of eastern Pennsylvania, where his wife had shortly before died, came, with his three sons, William, Thomas, and John, to Washington County, and made a permanent settlement in what is now Allen township, on a farm which later descended to and was occupied by his grandchildren. Soon after his settlement in Allen township he married his second wife.

He was born in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, of English Quaker parents, and was there married. After the death of the wife and mother, the remainder of the family came to Washington County. He bought 100 acres of land, to which he afterward added another hundred acres.
