He was the youngest child in his parents' family, received a good common school education, all through his own efforts, and taught school four terms.
He was a member of the Universalist Church, his wife of the Presbyterian. He was the owner of fifty-five acres improved land, his father’s old homestead. He held several township offices; in politics was a Democrat.
