General Notes: Husband - Morgan B. Tanner


He enlisted in the 168th Regt. P. V. I. in 1863, serving in North Carolina; he was discharged July, 1864; he re-enlisted, March, 1865, in the 18th P. Cav., and was discharged July of same year. His country being out of danger, he returned to farm-life; he was a Republican in politics, held many township offices, and was now Assessor for the township. He took great interest in the cause of education, and himself taught ten terms, beginning when he was but sixteen years old. During his boyhood days, he stated, he was personally and intimately acquainted with President Chester A. Arthur.
