He attended the common schools until sixteen years of age, when he began to cultivate his father’s farm, continuing this until 1843, after which he worked through the Southern states. After his return from the South, he married and settled on a part of the old farm on which he was reared, which tract he had purchased from his father, and here he continued to live until his death. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
