General Notes: Husband - Donpedro Q. Turner

Much of the corn husking of early days was done at ''husking bees," the young men and ladies from the neighborhood were invited to assist at night, and after they were through, late at night, there was a supper and an hour of sport and diversion.
When he was about eighteen years of age, he attended one of these husking frolics, and, after the work was done, entered with boyish zest into the sports of the hour, which, in this case was wrestling. It was the rule that the victor in any of these contests was to continue wrestling till he was thrown or had thrown all the company.
Donpedro was declared the champion, but it cost him his life: He went home apparently, to all observers, uninjured but he took his bed and never left it. While lying on his bed of pain and death he earnestly exhorted his companions to abstain from such foolish feats of strength as he had exhibited and that had cost him so much.
