The Wise family came originally from Germany and its first settlement in America was made in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

He was born in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, where he was occupied as a farmer. He married there, his wife being also a native of Montgomery County, and also a descendant of an old family of the state, and they belonged to the Mennonite sect.
