General Notes: Husband - Eli Hovis Van Dyke

He was the youngest of the family born to his parents, and spent his boyhood days on the old farm. He received but little schooling, his inclination being to get out and make his way in the world. He lived at home with his father and mother until he was thirty years old when he was married. He always engaged in farming in his younger days, and shortly after his second marriage moved upon a farm which he purchased of Mrs. Vanderbilt. He had three good producing wells on his property and for a period of more than twenty years was identified with the oil industry, leaving the care of the farm to his sons. He became a pumper for the Mechanicsville Oil Company. Religiously, the family were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. Van Dyke was a Republican in politics, and consistently supported the principles advocated by that party. He was a member of the Knights and Ladies of Honor. [HBC 1909, 1466]
