General Notes: Husband - David Beaty

He was born in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, and resided there until he was nineteen years old, receiving his education in the public schools. During the next four years he worked on a farm at Chautauqua, New York, and during the following five years engaged in lumbering in the extensive forests at Tionesta, Forest County, Pennsylvania, then part of Warren County. From this town he went to West Hickory, near Tidioute, where he followed farming and lumbering. When oil was discovered he began operations on petroleum on Oil Creek, eight miles south of Titusville, and was successful from the first, extending his business until it assumed large proportions. He continued in business until he had amassed a fortune. In 1873 he erected a handsome home at Warren and resided there until his death. When he left home he had a capital of $1.75 in his pocket, but by industry and shrewdness he won a position of prominence in the business world and acquired a competency. He owned more than 500 acres of land in Warren county and a tract of 4,000 acres in North Dakota. [GPHAV, 722]
