General Notes: Husband - John Welte


He was of Swiss or German ancestry.
He and a brother, about 1789-90, migrated from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. His brother settled in Wayne County, 0hio, and changed the spelling of his name to Welty, while John settled in Jefferson County, 0hio, and changed the spelling of his name to Welday.

He purchased a large tract of Government land north of New Alexandria. 0hio, and southeast of Fernwood, between Mclntire and Cross Creeks, and built a home of logs on the farm. In about 1830 his son, Isaac, built a home of brick. The family burial grounds were close by this house, and John and his wife, and other family members were buried there.
