A. B. Yale 1861, A. M. Yale 1871. He enlisted as a private in the "First Defenders" on Apr. 16, 1861, the first troop in the Civil War to enter Washington. Later he served as captain of the Seventh Pennsylvania Cavalry. He was President of the Board of Trustees of the State Hospital for Injured at Ashland, Pennsylvania, and president of the Edison Electric Illuminating Co. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State "Coal Waste Commission." See "Who's Who in America," Vol. 1, 1910-11
