He was a native of Ireland, was among the early settlers of Venango township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, where he purchased seventy-three acres of land, which he continued to clear and improve as long as he lived. He was twice married, with his first wife he had several children, only one living in 1895. His second wife bore him four children. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, was a Republican in politics, and lived to the ripe age of eighty-six years.
