General Notes: Husband - John Beistel

He was reared in Unity township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, learned the trade of tailor at Greensburg and removed to Donegal township, where he owned one hundred and eighty acres of land and followed farming until his death. He was a republican and a member of the Lutheran church. He and his wife had eight sons and five daughters. Six of these sons served in the Union armies during the Civil war.

The first of the name to come to the region was John Beistel, who settled in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and became the possessor of a farm in Cook township, which he worked with much success, although by trade he was a tailor. He continued to make his home in Cook township until the time of his death. [WON, 538] The source states this refering to this person, but there appears to be confusion in the sources regarding the two generations.
