He was eight years old when his parents came to Parker's Land­ing, PA, and he attended school there for some years, but after he was twelve years old he was identified with the oil industry and made oil drilling his leading interest. He and his wife were members of the Presbyterian Church. In politics he was a Democrat.

Later, he resided in Oklahoma.
