James A. Bell of Knox RD 1, a retired glassworker, died Monday morning in Franklin Hospital following a short illness. Mr. Bell's 77th birthday would have been today.
Born March 6, 1902, in Knox, he was a son of Allison and Pearl Zerbe Bell.
He was married in 1923 to the former Norma Rankin, who survives.
Mr. Bell lived for ap­proximately 20 years in Franklin, and he worked for Chicago Pneumatic Tool while a resident there.
He later bought a farm at Knox RD 1, and lived there the rest of his life.
After returning to the Knox area, he worked for Edenburg Motor Co. of Knox and Mays Coal Co. He also worked 15 years for Glass Containers Corp. of Knox, retiring from that firm in 1963.
While at the glass plant, he was a member of the Glass Bottle Blowers Association.
Mr. Bell was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Rocky Grove.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are the following persons: a son, James L. of Knox RD 1; three brothers, Clinton of Knox RD, Ralph of Franklin, and Winfield of Anderson, Ind.; and four sisters, Mrs. Rell (Iva) Mays of Clarion, and Mrs. Ethel Johnson, Miss Dora Bell, and Mrs. Hazel Miller, all of Franklin.
Four grandchildren and six great grandchildren also sur­vive.
Three brothers and an infant sister preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends at the Roy P. Stuart Funeral Home in Knox from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm today.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 2 pm Wednesday, with Rev. M. E. Friedlund, pastor of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church of Ninevah officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens, Franklin RD 2.

Norma M. Bell
Norma M. Bell, 84, of Knox RD 1 and a native of Franklin, died at 10:20 pm Sunday at the Clarview Rest Home near Sligo.
Born March 8, 1900 at Franklin, she was a daughter of the late Alan and Ida Rankin.
She married James A. Bell May 21, 1922. He preceded her in death March 5, 1979.
Mrs. Bell worked for General Manifold and Printing Co. in Franklin prior to her marriage.
She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Rocky Grove and attended the Grace Evangelical Congrega­tional Church at Ninevah.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Opal P. Bell of Knox RD 1; two grandsons, Terry A. Bell of Columbia, Md., and Randy L. Bell of Cape Coral, Fla.; two
granddaughters, Mrs. Donald (Carol) Knight of Columbia, Md., and Mrs. Steven (Peggy R.) Wells of Jacksonville, N.C.; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Rankin and Edna Durlin.
Friends will be received after 2 pm today at the William N. Rupert Mortuary in Knox. The family will receive Irienas from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm today.
Funeral services will be con­ducted there at 11 am Wednes­day with Rev, Donald Metz, pastor of the Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, officiat­ing.
Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
