General Notes: Husband - Solomon Benner

As the only son of a well-to-do farmer he had a better start in life than the average youth of the day. He had the full benefit of the local schools such as they were. Constant training in the work of the homestead during boyhood enabled him to take charge of it on his father's retirement, and for some years he rented it. At the death of his father he was appointed executor, and after paying off the claims of his sister's children, the only heirs except himself, he took the remainder of the estate, including the homestead. He came to own two farms containing 130 acres of excellent land, and had a small tract of timber land on the mountain. His careful management secured a handsome competence, and in September, 1897, he retired from business and located at Vicksburg to enjoy his leisure.
