General Notes: Husband - James Miller Walker

He learned the weaver's trade in Ireland, and at seventeen years of age came to the United States and until his marriage worked at his trade in the woolen mills at Philadelphia. Soon after his marriage he moved to Greensburg, Pennsylvania, where he remained three years. He then located in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania, (later Pittsburgh North Side) where he was superintendent of a rope walk, the first plant in that city devoted to the manufacture of rope. A few years later he became superintendent of the weaving department in the Western Penitentiary, holding that position for eighteen years, when he resigned. After four years absence he returned and held the same position for three years more. He then became the first superintendent of the Allegheny County Home for the Infirm, holding that position four years. He was a Republican in politics, and both he and his wife were active members of the Presbyterian Church. For twenty-five years he was an elder and superintendent in the Sabbath-school of the First United Presbyterian church of Allegheny City.
