General Notes: Husband - George Bentley

The Bentley family was first established in America by George Bentley, a native of England, who was drafted into the English army during the colonial days, and came to America as a member of the Royal troops. He subsequently located in Chester County, Pennsylvania, where he married and they reared a large family of children.

Another source states that his grandfather was living in Chester County, Pennsylvania, in 1701. It is not unusual for descendants to be unclear on which generation imigrated.

He served in the colonial wars, holding a lieutenant's commission.
The family moved to western Pennsylvania about the time of the Revolution.
