General Notes: Husband - Joseph Berlin

Latrobe, Unity Twp, Westmoreland Co, PA - a blacksmith

At the beginning of the Civil War, he responded to the first call for volunteers, enlisting in the Eleventh Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, under "Fighting Dick Coulter," of gallant memory. In one battle Mr. Berlin was wounded severely in the left shoulder, the process of healing was never properly completed and in consequence he suffered all his life from the effect of the injury.
Two years before his death he was stricken with blindness and his sight was never restored. At the age of eighty he passed away at the Soldiers' Home in Erie, Pennsylvania.
