He probably settled in W. Brunswick Township of Berks County, PA, as a young man, and lived there all of his life. This area in 1811 became Schuylkill County, and at some time the township name was changed to Man­heim.

He took the Oath of Allegiance in Berks County, Pennsylvania, on 20 June 1778. He served in the Revolutionary War.
