General Notes: Husband - William C. Bigler


He was educated in the common schools and began life for himself in the lumber business. September 20, 1861 he enlisted in the Fourth Pennsylvania Cavalry; he was wounded at the battle of Malvern Hill in August, 1864, was transferred to the Twentieth regiment, Veteran Reserve Corps, in April, 1865, and discharged by general order of the war department at Wheeling, West Virginia, in August, 1865. He served as constable of Cranberry township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, for a number of years, and was independent in politics. He and his wife were active members of the Baptist church of Salina, of which he was a deacon.
