General Notes: Husband - Thomas Benn

He was a Methodist Episcopal clergyman.
He started out as a schoolteacher, being among first teachers at Cooperstown school in Venango County, in the 1820s. He was converted at a camp meeting held at Fairview, Erie County. He was licensed to preach, Erie Conference, 1834; transferred to Arkansas Conference, 1836-43; returned to Erie Conference, 1843-53, at which time he retired; briefly reinstated for one year, 1856-57, Corsica, Pennsylvania.
It was rather bluntly said of him that he was "rather deficient in intelligence," but was a successful preacher, nonetheless, because "he was a great singer and could pray well."
