He enlisted May 28, 1861, in Company H, of the Seventeenth Illinois Infantry. He participated in the battles of Fort Donelson, Pittsburg Landing, siege of Corinth, and others, and was honorably discharged, by reason of disability, March 10, 1863. [HBC 1883, 431]
