General Notes: Husband - William Lauffer Martin


He received a common school education, and in 1875 entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company as assistant agent at Manor Station, where he also learned telegraphy. At the end of two years he was transferred to Irwin, Pennsylvania, as night telegraph operator for the same company, resigning in 1881 to accept a clerical position in the general superintendent's office of the Westmoreland Coal Company at Irwin. He continued with this company for some time, 1906, becoming head of the shipping department and sales agent on the western end of the Pittsburg division of the Pennsylvania railroad.
He was a member of Shidle Lodge, No. 601, F. and A. M.; Kedron Commandery, No. 18, K. T., Greensburg, and other Masonic bodies.
