He emigrated to America about the year 1833, settling in Rochester, New York, where he engaged in newspaper work, writing articles for the press. He was born and reared in Ireland, was the owner of a farm there, and prior to his removal to the United States served in the capacity of teacher, having been a man of excellent educational advantages and great strength of character.
