General Notes: Husband - Joseph M. Whitehill


He was educated in Clarion County, Pennsylvania. At the age of 21 (1861) joined Company A, 103rd Pennsylvania Vol-unteer Infantry, as a private, was promoted to the rank of sergeant, and served to the close of the war, having reenlisted as a veteran. He was at the siege of Yorktown, battle of Williamsburg, Seven Pines, Seven Days' battle before Richmond, and many other engagements. He was captured at Fort Williams and spent a long term in Andersonville Prison. Mustered out at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, June 17, 1865. He settled with his family at Arkansas City, engaged in traffic on the Mississippi river, and was prosperous in business.
